New Mexico has a rich and varied history of film making. Since 1898, when Thomas Edison shot (or arranged to shoot) the first known piece of motion picture film at the Isleta Pueblo Day School, through today, nearly 500 feature films and television shows have been shot within our state borders. Nearly every community in New Mexico can boast at least one film that has been made within its city limits or nearby.
