Under the Influences May 25 – Sept. 16, 2019

Under the Influences

The Board of La Sala de Galisteo is pleased to announce visual art programming for its new Summer Season 2019. The theme of our show is “Under the Influences,” an acknowledgement of how the work of others has influenced artists, writers, filmmakers, and musicians. It will be open from May 25 through late September and will be augmented by additional programming such as films, lectures and workshops.

Are you, or do you know, a New Mexico artist?

Please encourage them to send in a submission! The exhibition is open to all artists in New Mexico and will be curated by a select committee from the Board of La Sala. Read below for more information.

Artists are invited to submit work for consideration to be included in La Sala de Galisteo’s upcoming summer show entitled, “Under the Influences.” The show will run from May 25, 2019 until Sunday, September 17, 2019 and is open to artists from across the state of New Mexico.

Each artist submitting work should consider the influence of others on their work and how that may or may not be self-evident to the viewer. The forces of influence can range from:

single works to the entire careers of an individual; ideas or images that are fused across disciplines, e.g. jazz musicians, poets, visual artists, philosophers, writers, etc. and how these contributed to your process; the influences need not be all affirming as there may be ideas or works that you strongly rejected as a means of defining the nature of your work.

To be considered for the exhibition, please forward up to 3 images of your work, along with a short statement concerning your interpretation of our theme “Under the Influences.” A one page resume will also be helpful.

Send these to:
Shaun Gilmore, shaungilmorestudio@gmail.com
Cindy Lux, forbeslux@aol.com

Deadline for submissions is April 15, 2019
The board will curate all submissions and inform artists by April 30 and delivery to La Sala will be scheduled for the weekend of May 18 and 19.

Any questions can be directed to Cindy or Shaun at the emails above.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing your work!
