Pop Up! Barbara King – 8/3 & 4 and 8/10 & 11

La Sala is excited to announce the summer series of Pop Up Stores. On select weekends we’ll host NM local artists and craftspersons as they set up a pop up shop and sell their work. Shop and support local!

Barbara King will be exhibiting functional and decorative pottery both wheel thrown and hand-built.  The pieces are glazed and fired in a gas reduction atmosphere. I have been in the Galisteo Studio Tour for over 13 years and look forward to visiting with friends and clients well as visitors new to my work.

For thirty years I lived and worked along the New England seacoast. My work has been influenced by and, in turn, has reflected that natural coastal beauty. In recent years I have been in a studio near Santa Fe, New Mexico experiencing a whole new adventure with clay while immersed in another
spectacular landscape.

I work with high fire porcelain and stoneware clays. The limited edition and one-of-a-kind functional ware is fired in a gas reduction atmosphere which encourages the development of earth tones and subtle color variations in my glazes. Glazes which are often layered using wax resist and then further defined with carving and brushwork. My pieces are microwave, oven proof and dishwasher safe and add beauty to any setting.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Art
Education, and from Massachusetts College of Art with a Masters degree,
I taught art for more than twenty years. Also for thirty years I operated Ocmulgee Pottery- a studio, school, and fine crafts gallery in Ipswich, Massachusetts.
